We sprouted some seeds and legumes recently and just made these sprouted lentil burgers with black beans. OH MY GOD! They are so delicious that I had to share the recipe here so you don't miss out. Literally the best vegetarian burger we've ever had. We also sliced them on the grill with delicious sweet potato fries. We actually did them three times in the last week, they are that good!
If you've never sprouted seeds or legumes, it's pretty easy. We've had the best luck sprouting lentils. But I just found this handy resource on Sprouting 101, with a lot of information on how to sprout. We're going to try a few things like quinoa and pumpkin seeds again as we apparently didn't get it quite right the first time … LOL! We also have some handy sprouting jars for larger seeds and legumes and these sprouting lids that convert mason jars into sprouting jars for smaller seeds and grains.
So why sprout?
If you're not a fan of sprouts, this may change your mind. According to Harvard News (1), sprouted grains, seeds, and legumes are more nutritious than their non-germinated cousins. It turns out that the germination process breaks down some of the starches as well as the phytic acid that can hinder the absorption of vitamins and minerals in the body. Sprouting makes nutrients such as folic acid, iron, vitamin C, zinc, magnesium, and protein much more bioavailable to the body. Because they are also less starchy, they can be easier to digest than non-germinated grains, seeds, and legumes.
Ok, enough about the sprouting for now, let's move on to the sprouted lentil burger with black beans recipe! Because I know that you really want to try this …
Sprouted lentil burger with black beans and sweet potato fries
The nutritional yeast in the burgers gives them a cheesy taste, almost like a cheeseburger. And we love to serve our Sprouted Lentil Black Bean Burgers with Mexi Spice Sweet Potato Fries. That's why I've listed this recipe below.
Sprouted Lentil & Black Bean Burger
These veggie burgers are super quick and easy to make, and they taste so delicious that you will be making them often.
- 1-1 / 2 cups sprouted lentils
- 1 Cup Brown rice, cooked
- 1/2 Cup roasted pumpkin seeds (or other roasted nuts)
- 1/2 – 1 Cup chilled black beans
- 2 TABLESPOON Nutritional yeast
- 1 TABLESPOON olive oil
- 2 TABLESPOON dried onion flakes
- 1 TL cumin
- 1 TL Mexican spice (or taco seasoning)
- 1 TL black pepper, coarse soil
Mix all ingredients except chilled black beans.
In 1/2 cup, add black beans and mix well with fork or by hand. Add more chilled beans as needed to get the right consistency for making burger patties.
Makes 4 large burgers or 6 medium burgers. Grill on the grill until brown and crispy.
Sweet potato fries
Healthier alternative to french fries.
Scrub sweet potatoes and cut into "steak-fry" wedges, leaving the skins open
Throw sliced sweet potatoes with olive oil and mexi spices
For cooking: fry in the pan, grill on the grill or bake in the 450 ° oven for 15 to 20 minutes (fries halfway through the baking process)
