What is aging
Aging is primarily a progressive deficiency disease. Deficiency in protein, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants. It is a natural deterioration in muscle mass accelerated by free radical attacks. We'll see what free radicals are all about. It starts in adulthood, picks up speed in middle age, and accelerates after age 50.
You, me and all of us who watch this show are infecting everyone who lives on this planet every second. Aging is constant, but the rate at which we age is not. That's what we can really control. We can slow down the biological clock by correcting our eating and living habits.
Why do we age
Aging occurs when our cells are damaged by continual attacks from free radicals. Free radicals are simply molecules with one electron missing. If an electron has no partner, it can become very reactive and unstable. Many things increase free radical production, such as: When you have an infection, your body creates a free radical burst to destroy the invaders. When you smoke, you ingest free radicals. Pollution, stress, sun exposure, radiation, and exercise cause your body to produce free radicals.
Why are free radicals so dangerous?
A free radical can destroy a protein, an enzyme, or even an entire cell. They can multiply through a chain reaction and release thousands more like themselves. This involves our immune system and makes your organs age. Aging and all age-related disorders are related to free radical damage. How do we stop this dance of destruction? By consuming antioxidants. Free radicals can be neutralized by antioxidants, which are compounds that donate one of their electrons and thus stabilize the free radicals without becoming unstable themselves. Antioxidants like vitamins A, C, E, selenium, and glutathione defuse the destructive free radicals and repair their damage. With the help of these antioxidants, available all around us, you can prevent and reverse the aging process to an amazing degree – in your food, in your kitchen, in your garden, in a vitamin bottle and much more! They cost very little when compared to the cost of not taking them.
So it is natural to do so
A) Flood your bloodstream with powerful antioxidants like vitamin E, beta-carotene, and vitamin C by consuming fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, and taking advantage of the other antioxidant benefits of foods like garlic, ginger, tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower etc.
B) Reduce your intake of foods that accelerate the aging process like sugar, excessive oil intake, processed foods.
C) Consume sufficient protein (50g per day) to enable tissue repair and prevent loss of muscle mass and bone degeneration.
D) Take antioxidants in the form of supplements, herbs, and vitamins that zap the free radicals and the radicals found in food.
My philosophy has always been "natural is preferable". Nature has always been my temple of consolation.
